School: General
Information and Academic Administration
After observation, please write a report about school general information and its academic
administration according to topics as follows:
1.1
School profile
As a whole rating, I give a big thumbs
up at Pangasinan State University Bayambang. They have 9 campuses that have
several majors ranging from high school to kindergarten to college, which they
also have good administration in their schools, provide a learning environment
conducive enough for their students to make them competent and creative
students. In their academic plans and school development, they have a good
vision and mission to become an ASEAN Premier State University in 2020 and the
Pangasinan State University, through instruction, research, extension and
production, committees to develop highly principled, morally upright,
innovative And globally competent individuals capable of meeting the needs of
industry, public service and civil society. And all this is possible with the
support and assistance of the government, parents, teachers, and students
themselves. Good thing in this school, parents have the greatest role in
supporting the needs of the students. They not only support when students come
to their homes but also support their schools. The leadership of Pangasinan State
University embraces the philosophy of education of the Philippines that
education is directed towards citizenship and better livelihoods and the United
Nations statement that EDUCATION FOR ALL gives access to quality education.
In terms of the faculty staffs, they
have a good relationship with each other. We can’t deny their good teaching
performance and their enthusiasm in their profession but their good
relationship shows how they care with each other through having peer-evaluation
and even having a sharing of knowledge and teaching methods. Moreover, schools
also provide professional development through workshops on teaching methods.
In terms of their curriculum and
instruction, they ensure that the curriculum, which comes from the ministry of
education, will reflect the vision and mission of their school. They use
curriculum k 12 in their education. Nothing else they have Internet, servers,
computer labs and easily accessible LCD projectors used as classroom
instructions. Another good thing in their evaluation to the students, is that
they have an evaluation of these characters to the students. In addition, they
provide extra-curricular activities that are also assessed.
Additionally, in terms of their
facilities, they have accessible library and laboratories which have complete
equipment and resources. With their physical environment, they have good
buildings, clean and fresh surroundings, and satisfying services.
1.2
Academic support
system
Education in the Philippines is managed and regulated by the Department of Education
(DepEd), Commission on Higher
Education (CHED) and Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). DepEd is responsible
for the K–12
basic
education; it exercises full and exclusive control over public
schools and nominal regulation over private
schools, and it also enforces the national curriculum that has been put in
place since 2013. CHED and TESDA, on the other hand, are responsible for higher
education; CHED regulates the academically-oriented universities
and colleges
while TESDA oversees the development of technical and vocational education
institutions and programs in the country.
From 1945 to 2011, basic education took ten years to complete—six years
of elementary education and four years of high
school education for children aged six up to fifteen. However, after the
implementation of the K–12 Program of DepEd and subsequent ratification of
Kindergarten Education Act of 2012 and Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013,
the basic education today takes thirteen years to complete—one year of kindergarten,
six years of elementary education, four years of junior high school and two years of senior high school for children aged five up to
seventeen. As of 2017, the implementation of Grade 12 has started.

Curriculum
Elementary school,
sometimes called primary school
or grade school (Filipino: paaralang elementarya, sometimes mababang paaralan), is the first part
of the educational system, and it includes the first six years of compulsory
education (Grades 1–6) after cumpolsory pre-school education called Kindergarten.
In public
schools, the core/major subjects that were introduced starting in Grade 1
include Mathematics, Filipino, and Araling Panlipunan
(this subject is synonymous to Social Studies).English is only introduced after the second semester of Grade 1. Science is only introduced starting Grade 3. Other major subjects then include Music, Arts, Physical
Education, and Health (abbreviated as MAPEH), TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education)
for Grade 6, EPP (Edukasyong Pantahanan
at Pangkabuhayan) for Grades 4 and 5, Mother Tongue (Grades 1-3) and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (synonymous to Ethics, Values or Character Education). In private schools,
subjects in public schools are also included with the additional subjects
including:Computer Education as a
separate subject, though it is included in EPP and TLE through its ICT
component. In Christian and Catholic schools, Religious Education is also part of the curriculum like Christian Values and Ethics, Christian
Living, or Bible Studies. Islamic schools like Madrasah schools have a
separate subjects for Arabic Language
and for Islamic Values or
abbreviated as ALIVE. Chinese
schools may also have subjects in Chinese
Language and Culture. International schools also have their own subjects
in their own language and culture.
The
K to 12 curriculum will provide learners with a repertoire of competencies
important in the world of work and in a knowledge-based society. It envisions
the development of scientifically, technologically, and environmentally
literate and productive members of society who are critical problem solvers,
responsible stewards of nature, innovative and creative citizens, informed
decision makers, and effective communicators. This curriculum is designed
around the three domains of learning science: Understanding and applying scientific
knowledge in local setting as well as global context whenever possible,
performing scientific processes and skills, and developing and demonstrating
scientific attitudes and values.
1.7
Teaching plan (of your
major)
On their teaching plan here as what he
has in the Philippines, they do not have this core standard and are instantly
broken down into specific learning objectives. And it's all based on their
curriculum guide.Their teaching plan provides detailed learning resources,
varied learning activities, and learning assessments. I have observed that the
procedure or flow of the lesson are student-centered, while their assessments
are performance based which assessed by rubrics or mechanical ratings.
2.
Pedagogical Contents
After observation, please write a report on school pedagogical contents (where you were placed
for practicum) according to topics as follows:

After observation, please write a report about school teaching plan according to topics as
follows:
1.1
Curriculum
PSU
Integrated School use K to 12 Curriculum. The K to 12 for Science Curriculumis
learner-centered and Inquiry-Based, emphasizing the use of evidence in
constructing explenations. Concepst and skill in Life Science, Physics,
Chemist, Biology and Erath Science are presented with increasing number of
complexity from one grade level to another inspiral progressio, thus paving the
way to a deeper understandingof one concepts. The integration accross science
topics and other diciplines will lead to a meaningful understanding of concepts
and its aplication to real life situation.
This
curiculum is designed arpund three domains of learning science : understanding
andapplying scientific knowledge in local setting as well as global context
whenever possible; performing scientific proccess and skill; and developing and

Observation
on Teacher(s)
After observing and studying about
teacher(s), please write a report on following topics:
1.1
Planning for teaching
the teachers here use
to make the planning fo teaching daily. They will make their lesson plan also
daily. They use the curriculum guide and books to make the lesson
plan.
1.2
Preparing lessons and
materials
Every
teachers here commonly use the powerpoint presentation, so I usually
accompanied the teachers to make the media like powerpoint and other media for
games like pictures before the class started.
1.3
Teaching in class
The
teacher here almost all are so young, they shown different energy and
characterize when they were teaching. I was not only observed Biology Lesson,
but I also observed all science lesson both Physics and Chemistry. That’s why I
can compare it Over all the part of teaching they used is similar with
Indonesia. There is no highly different in the parts of teaching.
1.4
Measurement and
Evaluation
For
measurement and evaluation, teachers here has a little bit different way in
Indonesisa. There is a part at the end of lesson plan, that is evaluation. In
this part, the teachers give some questions for the students based on what they
had duscussed before. But the teachers would not include that students answers
as studenst final mark or rate. Based on observation, they use that as only to
measure what their students had understood of tgeir lesson. The teachers will
not use it as grading for the students.
5.
Teaching Practice
For teaching practice, please have to
write a teaching plan and consult with teacher (of your teaching subject). Then
student teacher will be assigned to teach in class and reflect on their
teaching after class. Please write a report on the teaching practice according
to topics as follows:
1.1
Procedures of teaching
For
teaching practice, I prepared two kinds of lesson plan. I made Indonesian
format and Philippine format. I used Indonesian format for the first two days,
and Philippine format for last two days. I only taught 4 days in that week,
because Monday was holiday. I didn’t get many advices for Indonesian format.
The teachers said that I really know about that. They only gave the corrections
for the grammer. For the Philippines format, I got a lot of suggestions and
corrections. Over all, there were three main parts of teaching procedures, Pre
Developmental Activities, Developmental Activities and Post Developmental
Activities. Pre Developmental. Pre developmental Activities consists of pray,
checking attendance, recall and motivation. Developmental Activities consists
of topics to be discusses and guide questions for deliver the materials. This
part explain how the teachers deliver the materials in the class. Post
Developmental Activities consists of generalization and evaluation.
Generalization is the part of the lesson for the teachers to review what they
have ben discussed in that meeting. Evaluation is tha part of the lesson to
check the understandments of the students to the topic that they have learnt.
But the students answer in this part will be not used in grading.
1.2
Time management and
organizing activities
Time
management in Philippines format was not too hard to be adopted. The main poin
I got was we had to give a lot time in teaching for discusssion and students
activities. Although we gave them some games or the other activities for the
motivation, we should not spend much time. In philippines, they used to make
the students activities. This was also the challenge for me to creat the
students activities in the class. It depends on the teachers creativity.
1.3
Problem-solving
The
biggest problem I met on this programe was about language. I had to worked hard
to explain the materials and concepts using English. It was a big challenge for
me. I also realized that althought the teachers here also using English when
they were teaching, not all he students can use English well. For example to
science major. It because the materials was so conplex, sometimes the students
can’t uderstand it. Exactly they were not 100 % using English.the teachers also
used Filipino when teaching. They used the easier way to explain the concepts
to the students. I faced that challeng by learnt more about the materials using
english. I also practiced the materials that I would teach next day with my
friends in the dormitories. It was so helpful for me to faced this problem. I
also communicated to my mentor and supervisor instructor to give some advices
before teaching in the class. Some concepts or priciples was hard to explain in
in English, that’s why beside the format, They also gave me advices about the
materials.
1.4
Classroom management
I
learnt so much experiences in Philippnes. Here they use sit plan to the
students. Every class had different sit plan. It depends on the class. Start
from observation and teaching assistance, I got the experiences in classroom
management. The teacher should also had the avalable voice so it would be
helpful in classroom management. Especially in group activity, we had to be
clear give the direction. How we divided into some groups and also explain how
the technical of their activity should do.
6. Summary and Suggestions
Student teacher summarize about what
you had done during your practicum according to topics as follows:
1.1
Purposes of practicum
The main purpose of this programes are to practice our
teching skill in differennt country. from this programe we can also increase
our English skill, both in teaching or in communication. the last one is we can
bulid our relationship more, not only in my country, but also in abroad.
1.2
Procedures of
practicum
The procedures of this practicum I started it by made the
lesson plan in second week. I started to made the
lesson plan and also check my lesson plan to my supervisor instructor. Because
we didin’t allow to teach if our lesson plan was clear. After all of our lesson
plan were clear,
1.3
Outcomes of practicum
After
this practicum, I get new experiences from Philippines how they teach their
students here. Beside in teaching, I also can increase my English skill,
because every day I have to use English. Both in school and our students mentor
(buddy) here. The last one is new family and freinds here. Along this almost
one month, we pass it together, especially with our buddy. We went to every
where around campsu and out campus like market alway with the. Filipino are
warm, kind and so freindly, that’s why
in last week we felt so sad, it was same feel when I left my family to go
abroad to join this programe. We get so closed with our students, teachers and
all of our buddy along this month.
1.4
The challenges of
practicum
The
big challenges like I hade stated before was about coomunication or languages.
Because in Indonesia I never teach using English in real class, I really work
hard to learnt the materials using English. I also have to think the easiest
way to explain the concepts or priciples in Biology to make the students got
the point.
1.5
Overall impression
I
really glad can join this programe. This programe not only give us the great
experiences on teaching, but also in other in my life side. I learnt how to
adapt faster in new higly different culture, language, weather etc. I also
learnt more about freindship and family here. Because the students who stay
here are almost 30 students, that’s why we have to adapt with the other
students from my country also not only the students from my host university.
This programe giveme the new point of view to see something, and made me more
love my country so much.
1.6
Suggestions for future
improvement
I
hope for the next batch, the school which will join to the event can also
contact each other to the students who will practice their teaching in that
school. So the students can prepare more for the teaching practicum. Because I
learnt from this batch, I had less preparation. Epecially about educational
system and the curriculum. So the students will get well preparation.
